FOTD | Classic Red Lips

KathleenLights is one of my favourite Youtubers to watch at the moment. I tried to replicate the gorgeous makeup that she was wearing in one of her most recent videos, September Favourites. I love that the sexy red lip is balanced by soft definition around the eyes.

I wore this makeup to IMATS last weekend. I wanted my makeup to last all day, so I started by doing a light spray with the Smashbox Primer Water and then smoothing a dab of the Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer over the centre of my face, where foundation tends to disappear.

Seasonal changes usually means that my colour starts to change and to get the perfect foundation shade I mixed the L'Oréal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation in 102 Shell Beige with the Your Skin But Better® CC+ Cream with SPF 50+ in Light. The L'Oréal foundation is a fantastic drugstore foundation and has a long-wearing matte finish, but the colour is very neutral (almost pink!) and I prefer bases with a warmer, more yellow undertone. This combo is really nice and I'll definitely reach for it again when I need a flawless face!

I spread a thin amount of the Clarins Instant Light Concealer in shade 01 under my eyes and on the bridge of my nose. Although this concealer is very smoothing and has great coverage, it's incredibly fluid so I let it dry on for a couple of minutes before blending it in, which stops the concealer from just disappearing into the brush.

The MAC Painterly Paint Pot is a real staple in my makeup and this day was no different. It hides veins on the eyelids and leaves the perfect blank canvas primed for eyeshadow. I haven't talked about the Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel cream bronzer that much on the blog, aside from a tutorial early last year – but I have come to love this stuff. It's all about the application (I use the Real Techniques contour brush) and with this, less is really more.

I'll try to briefly describe how I finished off my face makeup – used the Hourglass Dim Light powder to set, the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow palette to contour and highlight, and skipped blush. I set everything with the Clarins Fix Makeup spray (not pictured).

Now comes the fun part! I lined my lips with the Annabelle lip liner in Cherry 205 and used the side of the pencil to blend more colour in towards the centre of the lips, so there isn't a harsh line. Then, straight from the bullet, I carefully filled in my entire lips with the Tom Ford Cherry Lush lipstick.

In her video Kathleen looked super polished with perfectly groomed brows and flawless skin. Of course I added a bit of definition to my own brows with the Anastasia Brow Wiz in Blonde and setting the hairs in place with the new transparent L'Oréal Brow Plumper.

As for eyes I kept it simple with a light dusting of the shades Lt Brown and Rosé from the Lorac Pro Palette 2. I very rarely use this palette and it definitely deserves some more love – won't that Plum shade look gorgeous this fall? Finally I curled my lashes and added a couple of coats of the Shiseido Majolica Majorca Lash King Mascara – so far I'm really liking how the fibres in this mascara add volume.

Although the makeup is more than I wear on an everyday basis, I didn't feel like I was wearing too much. Hope you enjoyed this "talk through" style of post, and let me know what you think of this look!

Would you wear this makeup?
