Brand Focus | Origins

After spending too much money at Sephora I was able to redeem my points for a bonus. I recommend saving them up until you hit the 500 level because there is a huge jump in value. I picked up the Origins set that came with 4 items.

I've now had enough time to test them out and there are some products I quite like and one in particular that I would recommend passing over.

Let's start with the good stuff first. I really like using the GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream. It is meant to brighten and depuff the under eye area. When I first opened the jar I was surprised by the salmon colour and the bit of glow the cream has. I would say this is a mix between an eye cream and an under eye highlighter. For me it is great in the mornings because it looks excellent under foundation. For the evenings however I definitely reach for a more nourishing product like the one from Antipodes. Overall, I would give this product a 4/5 because I do notice a difference when I use it. I just adds a nice glow and illumination where my dark circles are.

The cleanser that came in the set was the Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash. I strongly disliked this face wash – the scent is quite minty which irritated my eye area when I was using it. The formula is not good at removing makeup – it left me with some very unattractive panda eyes after using it. I had to get Bioderma to take the extra makeup off and cleanse a second time. I like the frothiness of the wash but didn't really feel like it was doing a great job at cleaning my skin. Overall I would recommend passing on this product. I would give it a 2/5.

There was also a little sample of the Modern Friction Nature's Gentle Dermabrasion. I liked this better than the cleanser – it is a good exfoliator and didn't leave my skin feeling dry after using it. The scent was pleasant, but not overpowering, and didn't leave my eye area irritated when I was washing the product off. This might have been because I don't get it near my eyes when I'm exfoliating but it was much more pleasant to use than the cleanser. Overall in terms of formula I would give it a 3/5.

I really liked the moisturizer that was included – The High -Potency Night-A-Mins Mineral Enriched Renewal Cream. This cream has the same scent as the GinZing range – it is very fresh and orange-y. I liked using this cream and applying a nice layer before bed. I felt like my skin was more glowing in the mornings after using it. I will not be running out to buy the full size version right away but will be keeping it in my mind when my current moisturizer runs out. Of all the products in the set this is the one I can most see myself going out and purchasing. Overall this is a nice moisturizer that does what is expected – it is a 4/5.
