Erin's August Favourites

August was a fantastic, busy month for me and makeup-wise I was using some real standouts that I have to share with you! Admittedly these are all pricey items, but lately I've been spending my money on quality over quantity. Read about my current drugstore favourites for more affordable options!

Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer – After hearing one of my favourite beauty gurus on Youtube, Chloe Morello, rave about this primer I knew I had to try it. I'm a big fan of the Hourglass powder in Dim Light for a gorgeous, soft-focus setting powder that doesn't exacerbate my dry skin (see it in this makeup tutorial). The reason I haven't tried more from the brand is because of the high prices! This 0.33 oz size retails for $21 CAD, and I can say this it's worth it if you need your makeup to last alllll day or if foundation breaks down on your skin. This primer leaves a smooth, satin finish without any of the "slip" that's seen with silicone-based primers. It's also 100% free of fragrance, oil and parabens. I don't have oily skin so I'm not sure if it controls shine as claimed, so let me know in the comments if you have oily skin and this works for you!

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant – I really should a post showcasing this magical cream all on it's own. I have mentioned it as one of my favourite beauty multitaskers.

Created in 1930 by Elizabeth Arden herself, it's a true cult classic. They also do an unscented version but the scent has really grown on me! It's subtly pine. "apricot colored balm is so effective due to its combination of petrolatum, a skin-soothing beta-hydroxy and vitamin E. This remarkable protectant promotes healthy looking skin and seals in moisture. Petrolatum: A universally acknowledged intensive moisturizer that also soothes and protects the skin. Salicylic Acid: A beta hydroxy acid pioneered by Elizabeth Arden over seventy years ago. It gently exfoliates to encourage smoother skin. Vitamin E (Tocopheryl Acetate): Acts as an antioxidant to help protect the skin from free-radical damage. It is easily absorbed by the skin and has soothing properties. Active Ingredient: (Each gram contains) Petrolatum 568 Mg (Skin Protectant) Inactive Ingredients: Lanolin, Mineral Oil, Tocopherol, BHT, Salicylic Acid, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Vegetable Oil, Zea Mays (Corn) Oil, Fragrance, Citral, Citronellol, Geraniol, Limonene, Linalool, Propylparaben, Iron Oxides"

Nuxe Poudre Eclat Prodigieux – Nuxe is well known for their Rêve de Miel lip balm that Katherine and I both adore, plus I've reviewed the more handy twist-up version. However, I knew there was more to discover from the brand after falling in love with the Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse. I was a bit skeptical of this bronzer at first because the brand is clearly focused on skincare, but boy, was I proven wrong. This bronzer is a very firm formula, so there's no powder fallout and almost no chance of going overboard – it's very subtle. The colour itself is warm but not overly so. The luxurious gold packaging, debossed pattern, and big mirror make it a late entry into products with perfect packaging.

Becca x Jaclyn Hill Shimmering Skin Perfector® Pressed Champagne Pop – Almost immediately after buying this I hurried to write an entire post on this bad boy. Basically, I'm in love with the stuff and can't put it down. The peachy champagne shade is ultra flattering, and the intensity is just what you'd expect from the likes of Becca. #HighlightOnFleek – need I say more?
