Eco-Friendly Makeup

I've raved about "green" beauty products before after making some great finds like an amazing kukui nut body butter, two hydrating lip balms, the best brush cleanser, and more. I wanted to look into what makeup brands are doing to fill the natural niche in the beauty market.

I'll include the same sort of disclaimer as in my last green post. There's no single regulatory body for to standardize what "natural" means, so I've only included brands that strive to be eco-friendly, non-toxic and cruelty-free. RMS Beauty is the single truly organic brand in this post. All of the brands mentioned are cruelty-free. Additionally, Ecotools is 100% vegan.

In order of application:

First I buffed in the bareMinerals Original Foundation in Fairly Light N10. I love that this product is fragrance-free and has broad spectrum SPF 15 protection, but the mineral powder formula can take some getting used to – the right brush is everything here! Then I added some extra coverage with the Josie Maran Argan Creamy Concealer Crayon in Light 1 under the eyes and around my nose. This concealer is super soft and has a nice yellow undertone. I'd recommend setting it with powder to help prevent creasing. (If you have any face powders from a natural brand to recommend, I'm all ears!)

For cheeks I had lots of options, and I settled on the pinky-brown Tarte Amazonian clay 12-hour blush in the shade Exposed. Using the Ecotools Tapered Blush Brush, I swept Exposed along the tops of my cheekbones. Another great colour from tarte is Natural Beauty, is a true red that gives a very pretty bright flush to the cheeks and looks great with a rosy lip. A dab of the RMS Beauty Living Luminizer on the tops of the cheekbones gives that much sought-after glow (more on strobing soon!).

On the lips I layered the Buxom Full-On Lip Cream in Mai Tai over the Korres Lip Butter in Mango. The glossy finish makes it a more flattering way to wear bright orange. Another fantastic natural lip option is the Tarte glamazon pure performance 12-hour lipstick in Playful, one of the lipsticks I always reach for in the spring

To complete the look I also used the Anastasia Brow Wiz in Ash Blonde and L'Oreal Telescopic mascara. If you have any favourite all-natural alternatives, please let me know! I think this look would have benefitted from having a face powder and bronzer, too.

Do you use any "green" makeup?
