Caveat Emptor

Getting fancy with the Latin here... today I'm talking about 3 beauty products that I would slap a "Buyer Beware" label on. (Not to be overly dramatic.) These products didn't impress me and I think that it's worth writing a critical review so that you can make up your own mind!

Origins Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash – To be fair, I had high expectations of this cleanser after loving everything that I've tried from Origins before this (a face mask and three creams). A little goes a long way with the cleanser because it foams up like crazy! It's a very drying cleanser that leaves my face feeling parched. This smells very strongly of spearmint and a few other herbal notes, like bergamot and lavender. Sensitive skin and anyone with less than very oily skin probably will not find this cleanser helps their skin.

Burt's Bees Ultra Conditioning Lip Balm with Kokum Butter – The vanilla bean lip balm from Burt's Bees that I mentioned in my green beauty favourites post has quickly become a staple in my purse. I managed to lose one of my tubes of the stuff on an airplane and made sure to replace it. (I can't go a whole weekend without lip balm! Talk about high maintenance...) I don't love this version as much – it feels greasy on the lips and didn't last, so I had to keep applying it. The light lemon scent was alright, and reminded of Fresh lip balms (that I wished I had instead).

Rimmel Brow this Way Eyebrow Gel in 001 Blonde – In my experience the drugstore always seems to come up short in the brow department. My favourite eyebrow products include the Benefit Gimme Brow; after it dried up I came across this budget version from Rimmel. I appreciate the tapered bristles, but the brush still isn't small enough, so I wind up getting brow product above my eyebrows. The product doesn't really grab onto the eyebrow hairs like Benefit's version does – combined with the warm colour, this doesn't far from natural.

With all that said, I think each of these brands has so much else to offer! You may also like reading about my last round of disappointing beauty products. If you feel like a pick-me-up, click the links to read about my love for theBalm, Real Techniques and Kat Von D.
