Falling Back in Love with Nail Polish

For all of July and what we've seen of August I've been hooked on shellac nails. I didn't want to have to think about chipped polish while travelling, and I relied on shellac to have perfect nails for weeks.

Now it's high time to switch back to regular polish! Shellac does wear down your nails, the removal process is a nightmare and, besides, I miss wearing my own polishes. Here are some of the nail polishes that I'm excited to wear once I do the ol' acetone-soaked tinman hands routine. I see myself wearing these shades right into the fall (too soon?). Jewel tones galore!

OPI Just A Little Rösti is a gorgeous deep cranberry. Dark red looks good on virtually every skin tone. This almost vampy colour is an update on the classic red manicure without being too dramatic.

OPI Ski Teal We Drop is a dark turquoise that's different than the usual nearly-black colours like essie's Wicked and OPI's Lincoln Park After Dark. This really pops in the winter when my skin is very fair.

essie No More Film is a deep violet blue crème. I prefer crème formulas because it's more modern than frosted versions, and this one has a fantastic, opaque consistency.

Lastly I'm hoping that the brand-new essie Gel Setter Top Coat can mimic the high gloss finish of shellac. I'll post an update on whether this actually delivers a glossy finish plus shorter drying time and long wear. While I still love the NYC Grand Central Station polish as a top coat, this could compete. (Check out my review of another at-home gel-like system, the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel System.)

What's on your nails at the moment?
