Summer Body Care

With summer rolling in we can now unearth skirts and shorts from the depths of our closets. Showing a little more skin starts with a shakeup of your body care products.

I'd never used a dedicated shaving cream before trying the eos Vanilla Bliss Shaving Cream. (Who knew that eos means Evolution of Smooth? Clever.) It's creamy, non-foaming, and thicker than hair conditioner, so it wouldn't dry out your skin or slip off your legs. There's also a pomegranate raspberry scent that would be perfect for summer. I definitely recommend using a shaving cream because it gives a much closer and smoother shave, and this is a great one to try!

Katherine and I talked about our self tanning routines a few months ago, and our #1 is still the St. Tropez bronzing mousse. My dry skin demands body lotion every time I step out of the shower so I hoped the St. Tropez Self Tan Bronzing Lotion would be a more moisturizing version. The colour is spot on and absorbs quickly so there isn't any transfer onto sheets. I actually prefer this to the mousse because not only does it moisturize, but I was able to apply it without a mitt  — with the mousse there's no way I would be able to get away with that! I still washed my hands after so I didn't have telltale brown palms.

The Jergens BB Body Skin Perfecting Cream was a favourite of mine last summer too, but I set it aside during the winter. Although this is a gradual self tanner what it's really great for is smoothing and evening out your skin with a hint of colour. It contains mica to give a sheen, silicone to leave your skin super smooth, and an awesome summery scent. Katherine and I both use the one for Medium-Deep skin tones which just means that it has more of the self-tanning ingredient DHA than the Light version. If you aren't a fan of body oils in the summer than give this a go!

Unfortunately, summer also brings bugs... and heat rash, sunburns, irritation... which is when the Avène XeraCalm A.D Lipid-Replenishing Cream saves the day. This cream is designed to treat eczema symptoms but it soothes any sort of skin trouble. Layer with itch relief cream or aloe vera as needed to quickly rehab your skin.
