Less than a month ago I had a crazy number of empty hair and skincare products. My makeup drawer was starting to feel very cluttered and knowing full well that I wasn't using it all, I decided to do a makeup purge.
I passed on a fair amount of makeup to friends (that I sanitized or had never used). For example, as much as I love purple makeup, I had one gorgeous Lancôme palette with purple eyeshadows that I knew would be stunning on my brown-eyed friend. Sharing is caring!
Other makeup was ready for the trash, but first I wanted to share my thoughts on them!
I saved the Urban Decay All Nighter makeup setting spray for special occasions or nights out because it really did preserve my makeup. A light mist leaves a slightly sticky sensation on the skin but does dry. This is the best spray that I have used for setting makeup (I also like MAC Fix+, but more for blending/refreshing makeup and working with pigments).
These mini samples of the Smashbox Photo Finish foundation primer were good but I've found that virtually any primer under makeup improves lasting time. However, there are other primers that are way better in my opinion — like Pixi's, or Hourglass's Veil Mineral primer which I definitely want to buy a full size of.
While I love using liquid eyeliner, I haven't found a favourite product yet (any suggestions are welcome!). The Maybelline Line Stiletto has a felt tip which doesn't give a precise line. While I liked the Urban Decay 24/7 liner better — it has a super fine brush tip and is seriously black — but the packaging leaked!
I wanted to find a healthier alternative to Seche Vite and came across Nouveau Cheap's review of the NYC Grand Central Station polish. This is a phenomenal gel-like top coat. It dries quickly and leaves my nails super shiny — I was asked several times if I had gel nails on! I will absolutely be repurchasing this.
A few lip products hit the bin as well — a mini MUFE Rouge Artist Natural lipstick in N9 Copper Pink (a flat pinky brown colour), the Joe Fresh lip stain in Plum (which I liked but was overdue to replace), the Revlon Super Lustrous lipgloss in 140 Foiled (metallic lips are very 90's but not in a cool way), and the Revlon gloss in 225 Berry Allure (unremarkable formula).
Lastly the MAC blush in Buff hardened and pigment wasn't coming off anymore. It's really similar to MAC's Harmony — both are great matte shades to use for subtle contouring.
What have you finished lately? Do you have a favourite liquid eyeliner?
