NARS Counter Makeover

I recently got to go to the Nars makeup counter at my local Holt Renfrew and get a makeover. The talented Robin gave me an entire makeup look starting with skincare and working her way up. I asked for a dramatic smokey eye as I was going to meet up with friends afterwards and wanted to keep it pretty easy on the lips.

There were a few items that stood out to me. I went in originally to get my makeup done because I wanted to try the new All Day Luminous Wear Foundation. As you can probably guess I am the fairest shade, Siberia. This foundation was not a winner for me. I love that it comes with a pump to keep the foundation fresh and prevent oxidization, but I really wasn't a fan of the formula. This foundation is very high coverage and it sets completely matte pretty quickly. You don't have to use a lot to get a full coverage finish, but on my skin it looked a bit dry on my normal to combination skin. Because of the super matte finish of this foundation I would recommend it for those with oily skin types. I would not recommend this foundation for dry, normal or combination skin. Personally I much prefer NARS Sheer Glow and the colour match for me is a bit better in that range as well.

For the smokey eye Robin used a number of products including the Velvet Shadow Stick in Dark Angel. I was really impressed with this - so much so that I picked one up for myself. It is great all over the lids for a dramatic look and applying a shadow over the top just adds dimension to the look. On my eyes she also used the Yeux Irrisistable Palette. I love this palette - the eyeshadows were super pigmented and buttery. I would say, however, if you already have the Lorac Pro palette that there are a lot of dupes between the two.

To finish off the look we went for something not too loud on the lips to balance out the heavy eyes. I am wearing the Audacious Lipstick in Vanessa with the Belize lip gloss on top.

Overall I had a lovely time getting my makeup done. I would definitely recommend it if you are thinking about getting a foundation or if you want to test it out a product before purchasing. Robin was wonderful and I would go back any time. It was great to learn some makeup tips from a professional.
