The Modern Guide to Purple

Neutral lovers - hear me out. Purple is the colour to incorporate into your makeup looks for spring 2015 - no longer is the shade targeted for the green-eyed girls. We loved the smudgy purple eye done at Vera Wang Spring 2015 Ready-to-Wear (you can see the look on our Pinterest).

One of my all-time favourite OPI nail polish is the shade Pamplona Purple - I was horrified when a new acquaintance took my bottle to paint on a wooden door. This all went down in our university residence, and I masked my concern with a "rules are rules" critique. What you can gather from my reaction is that I will love this polish 'til death do us part. It's the perfect candidate for purple nails!

How to make purple live on your cheeks? Try the NARS blush in Sin, a berry shade with subtle gold shimmer. Purple can be very cool-toned, but the gold shimmer makes it flattering on the cheeks. In a sense, this blush works as a neutral and pairs with virtually any makeup look!

Want even less commitment? Wear purple on your lips. It makes a statement in the same way red lipstick does, but cooler. Keep eye makeup minimal and neutral to avoid a goth look (which is fun too!). Keep the look soft - so step away from the eyeliner, and add an illuminator to the cheekbones (I love the RMS living luminizer).

My top three purple lip picks are Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm in ShamelessMAC Rebel lipstick, and Maybelline lipstick in 1005 Midnight Plum. Remember to blot between layers to make it last, or just do one swipe and blend in to create a berry pout.

Will you be sporting purple makeup this season?
