The Chic Guide to Glitter for NYE

New Year's Eve is the perfect time to play with glitter and here are a couple of ideas of how to have some fun with it but in a sophisticated and chic way.

The first option is on your nails - this is a great way to have fun with glitter but in a subtle way (not the full on sequin dress from head to two). On the middle left is a great chunky polish by Ciaté in the colour Antique Brooch, this is perfect for those girls that like a full-on manicure. Next I have chosen a much cheaper alternative for all of us budget conscious girls - Quo polish in Filthy Rich (don't you just love nail polish names)  that has smaller sparkles and a less intense glitter effect then the Ciaté polish.

Finally, a copper metallic Revlon polish in Copper Penny (such a cute name) is another way to add that holiday shine but in a more demure way. This polish is also a lot easier to remove than a glitter polish. If you are going to go for an all out sparkly nail I would recommend using the Orly Rubberized Bonder as a base coat as it makes removing glitter nail polish 10x easier as it simply peels off the nails. Don't worry, it won't damage your nails.

The second option is to play up the eyes -  a loose pigment like NYC Sparkle Eye Dust in the colour Amber Glitz has great pigmentation for an intense colour effect.  This is perfect if you are not that crazy about glitter but want to add some fun to your makeup look. It is also a drugstore option that won't hurt the bank. It does has a lot of fallout so I would recommend using a primer on your lids first. I like to wearing this in the inner corner of my eyes and trace it slightly under the bottom lash line.

For drama all over the lid, try using the Nars Eyeshadow Duo in Hula Hula. It is small and compac, hence perfect for traveling. If you are planning to get ready at your girlfriend's house for New Years this little duo is a great option to take with you.

Finally if you only want to add a touch of glow to your makeup look, I would recommend a great highlighter. The Soap and Glory Highlighter in Glow All Out is excellent for adding a glow without sparkle or glitter.  By adding a bit of highlighter to the top of your cheekbones, the brow bone and even your cupid's bow you can rock subtle holiday glamour. Highlighter is perfect for the type of girl that likes a natural makeup look.
